  Our debt to BRCI

  i have a buddy, tom cabeen, and i was talking ot him about the formation of brci.

  tom was there at the beginning...... they started back in the early eighties.

  today, the internet is our mode of connecting, however, it was letter, phone, and personal visits back then.

  Guys, here is the deal.

  The "generation" that really broke ground, the BRCI folks and others, are getting old. Tom is pushing 60, Ron Frye...old man (he is the coolest dude...) and everyone, me, too, are "getting along." We have to remember 1980 was 27 years ago and the clock is ticking.

  The next group, the younger crowd, here....say forty and younger, really need to know what happened...how this progressed to the point where those opposing the WT are not some back room, underground group of hoodlams (SP?) but an out in the open, well aware, educated, and non-embarrest membership of really fine folks.

  I just wish there was a way of putting together a "history" of this whole affair...the stories and such...an archive that stored THIS story. It is a great story....

  STOP THE MADNESS....where is this board going?

  i've only posted since feb 07..but i have lurked for several years prior and there was usually something interesting on the board.

  as i was reading the active topics list this morning, only a couple things jumped out at me as interesting...its been this way since the dgate and tgate incidents.... i was discussing this with a long time poster via im yesterday....does it seem to anyone else that so many of the topics are ...i dont know....odd...or different than they used to be...and i dont mean that in a good way.. i miss the newbies coming on and telling us their stories.... i miss the long time posters updating us on their lives post-borg... i guess with the recent uproar, the lurkers are hesitant to become newbies (cant say as i blame them now...we probably scared them off , and maybe the vets are just as hesitant...after all, someone went 2 years with their fraud/hoax...who will believe anyone else now?

  i hope this is just a temporary cycle on this board..i have read many many posts from the archives...i hope one day soon we can get back to a happy medium here.. by the way, i like the fluff threads, but these seem to be more and more sex related (maybe that word will wake someone)... yet they get all the attention....and then someone goes too far and it gets locked down by a mod and the poster restricted......(i am not a prude...just sometimes enough is enough).

  Good points, Jeff....

  I think Snakes is in a growth dynamic at this time....we have a hard time keeping up with ourselves with things "gel-ing" so quickly.

  With the steep learning curve it can get a little dizzy--eee---ing.....

  but i'm willing to consider christian belief systems.. just recently i've been studying the jewish kabballah (qabalah).

  My take is this:

  Better a loving pagan in the Judgement than a hypacrital Christian...we will see, won't we....

  HOWEVER,

  You guys are valuable. That little post you make...that small comment that never gets a response THAT may be the "straw" that breaks the back of resistance in a "lurker" and he accepts the fact the WT is, indeed, whacked.

  So, keep posting and stay around...it is a corporate effort....

  I think it is ebb an flo....and, maybe, where YOU are in Journey. Your perspective and attitudes...at least as they come through in your writing show a shift in perspective since I started reading your posts. That "fest" up North must have helped, also.....

  I agree on the "ribald" threads...yet, it shows the variety of opinion and openess of the board. If you are like me, I skip over a lot of this stuff. People are expermenting and expressing.....

  It all has to do with "Journey," bro, and where we and others are in this trek. I have learned a bit, and, it grows daily, to allow the other person a lot of room. You need space, too, and you are doing great.

  Yes, I agree with a lot of what you say. The pluses outweigh the minus-es, the good over the bad and ugly.

  Confession,

  I was fortunate enough to attend the BRCI conference in Chicago in '03. It was so great: as I have said, many, many times: ex JWs are the coolest folks on the planet. They were/are so supportive, balanced, and empathetic.

  Tom is a great man. He baptized me a Christian Jurly 23 of "03 when he and his son, Matt, where on a drive from the West to East Coast. That seems like twenty years ago. Tom is working on a new "bio" on his Journey...when he gets it finished I will post a copy, here.

  Tom represents the love and kindness of the BRCI crew.

  I have a buddy, Tom Cabeen, and I was talking ot him about the formation of BRCI. Tom was there at the beginning.....

  They started back in the early eighties. Today, the internet is our mode of connecting, however, it was letter, phone, and personal visits back then. I can not imagine the effort needed, without internet, to contact and arrange an event so "underground" (that is the term Tom used) as an "apostate" meet up. The group formed and went on for twelve...fifteen years before starting a site. They have talked to thousands since BRCI formed.

  We all, here, and across the globe, that oppose the lies, half truths, rewrites, and mind control of the WT owe a huge, huge debt to BRCI. The folks who formed this little group are, truely, trailblazers in regard to forming a bridge across the chasm of doubt and anxiety in leaving the WT. They and others are ministering to a diverse, uncertain, and emotionally charged crowd. BRCI and Beacon Light and, later, Freeminds were my foundatin stones five years ago.

  Imagine, though, BEFORE that, when the resources were not there. We need to form a "museum" of sorts to memorilize these heros. A "wall" where thier names are inscribed....something....

  Update on my letter to the Watchtower...

  so it's been a month since my detailed letter was sent to the watchtower service department.

  i sent the letter through dhl delivery, so that it could be tracked.

  as of today, they still deny recieving the letter.

  i've done a bit of research on the net.

  i don't have the links handy, but most of them centered around the assertion that the original words in those passages were mis-translated.

  Those that hold Jesus of Nazereth as a special person have, always, held human sexuality to be confined within the bond of husband and wife. This position has been the same for two thousand years. The ability to comply with this attitude is dependent upon our personal relationship with the Father through a personal relationship with the Son and acknowledges the place of the Holy Spirit in the internal change that occurs post-relationship.

  Homosexuality is just one of a myriad of sexual practices that is non-comforming to the position of the historic community of Christians.

  well it arrived today... 50.poundi sent him$ 50----he only got 23.80 i think if i remember rightly.. i received back in the exchange $56.37 so i was better off.. he did write a letter with it.

  but he just mentioned how your all out to "get" him..... just thought i would let you all know he did come across!!!!!!.
